2008 I brought home a new buckskin stallion. Boones Little Buckeroo is
his grandpa. (just like our Donny). Buckeroos Top Cat is his dad and his
mother is a pretty girl with Roan Ranger on the top and bottom. When I
buy a horse, I want to really like looking at it. I like looking at this
new stallion. I miss my Noah terribly, but here is my new project. This
cute boy was the first baby for the ranch I bought him from. That
resulted in both good and bad. What is so good is that he will never be
spooky, he loves attention, he does not bite or kick. But, on the other
hand, he is too bold, impatient and needs to be taught respect. When you
walk him on the halter, he walks on top of you and pushes on you.
When tied at the hitching rail, he rears up repetitively. Noah did this also at first. Noah even did it in the cart at first. Lesson 1 began August 14. 8/14/08 Watch this stallion begin to learn patience. 8/16/08 I tied this impatient boy to the swing set yesterday and today! There is a change of patience in him. He stands without rearing and even allowed me to trim his feet today. I don't usually trim feet, but his heels were so long, that my appointment with the farrier seemed too far off. He was wonderful and his feet look much better.
8/17/08 I have been walking Sequel on a halter and holding a long carriage whip as an extension of my arm. We walk around with me teaching him that Whoa means "stop." For you all who know Parelli, I am also teaching him the Parelli back up and to hind his hiney. These are all critical communications for him to understand in the beginning of our lessons. Everyday, we will review these until he is perfect at them. 8/18/08 After our donkey party (see movie here), I harnessed up Sequel and we ground drove for about 1.5 miles. 9/3/08 I have been ground driving
Sequel about 8 more times and then put him in a cart today. I am proud
of him. He was wonderful. I can't wait to develop his trot and
collection. Click here to see him
with the cart for the first time.
